eBay: The First 17 Years.

Is eBay Dead

Actually eBay was created in September 1995…

(that’s 17 years), it was created by a man called Pierre Omidyar, who was living in San Jose. He wanted his site – then called ‘AuctionWeb’ – to be an online marketplace, and wrote the first code for it in one weekend. It was one of the first websites of its kind in the world. The name ‘eBay’ comes from the domain Omidyar used for his site. His company’s name was Echo Bay, and the ‘eBay Auction Web’ was originally just one part of Echo Bay’s website at ebay.com. The first thing ever sold on the site was Omidyar’s broken laser pointer, which he got $14 for.

The site quickly became massively popular…

as sellers came to list all sorts of odd things and buyers actually bought them. Relying on trust seemed to work remarkably well, and meant that the site could almost be left alone to run itself. The site had been designed from the start to collect a small fee on each sale, and it was this money that Omidyar used to pay for AuctionWeb’s expansion. The fees quickly added up to more than his current salary, and so he decided to quit his job and work on the site full-time. It was at this point, in 1996, that he added the feedback facilities, to let buyers and sellers rate each other and make buying and selling safer.

I joined eBay in 2003 and started my eBay Shop about three years ago, it’s called the

Software Tutorial Shop

In 1997, Omidyar changed AuctionWeb’s – and his company’s – name to ‘eBay’….

Then, in 1998 – the peak of the dotcom boom – eBay became big business, and the investment in Internet businesses at the time allowed it to bring in senior managers and business strategists, who took in public on the stock market. It started to encourage people to sell more than just collectibles, and quickly became a massive site where you could sell anything, large or small. Unlike other sites, though, eBay survived the end of the boom, and is still going strong today.

1999 saw eBay go worldwide….

launching sites in the UK, Australia and Germany. eBay bought half.com, an Amazon-like online retailer, in the year 2000 – the same year it introduced Buy it Now – and bought PayPal, an online payment service, in 2002.

Pierre Omidyar has now earned an billions from eBay, and still serves as Chairman of the Board. Oddly enough, he keeps a personal weblog at http://pierre.typepad.com. There are now literally millions of items bought and sold every day on eBay, all over the world. For every $100 spent online worldwide, it is estimated that $14 is spent on eBay – that’s a lot of laser pointers.

Now that you know the history of eBay, perhaps you’d like to know how it could work for you?  Unfortunately most Internet service companies pick up some Flotsam and jetsam as they grow, most companies cut out this decay but does eBay? This page may help you decide if eBay is for you or do you need to find an eBay alternative.

Traffic Should Be Your Top Priority

Should Traffic Be Your Top Priority

There are instances wherein a great blog does not have enough traffic.

The key in getting traffic is to come up with a strategy and make everyone notice your blog. There are a few things that you need to consider with regards to generating traffic to your blog and these are not that different from planning a regular Web site.

The only exception is that blogs can generate traffic a lot faster. What you only need to consider first is your target audience and where exactly you are generating your blog’s traffic.

The content of your blog is very important. It is the reason why people visit your blog. Try to make your blog interesting and learn to master the ideas included in your blog. The content should also be relevant and of high value to the audience. Find out what your audience wants and if what you are writing satisfy them.

Content is especially important…

if you are planning sales from your blog. Firstly, you must become a trust-worthy and credible source of information before people try the product. Blogs are excellent medium for sales since they allow you to connect and converse through the use of the content. You must realize that without a great content, your blog cannot fully achieve power and leverage against others.

In order to gain audience for your content…

remember to publish frequently. Additionally, do not criticize others if you do not have facts to support your claim and references for those facts. If you criticize, do it in an objective non-personal manner. What you can do is to publish often and make sure that the entry you are about to publish is meaningful and of high-value. Lastly, be yourself to help your
audience relate to you but do not reveal any private information.

Some bloggers take the extra mile just to ping….

and do not solely rely on the blog software pings. The blog software pings’ job is to update the servers for the purpose of announcing your content updates. Search engines and blog directories then checks these update servers for the latest updates; this is the reason why your blog’s content gets into search engines quickly.

Pings make blogs excellent search engine optimization tools…

There are even instances where it only takes a day before your content gets into search engines. However, your blog’s content will only take hours to a few days to get into most search engines, on average. When starting a blog, always check the instructions included. There might be section wherein you can turn on the blog software ping automatically, which activates on the background. By doing so, whenever you publish content in your blog, it will instantly transmit ping updates.

RSS feeds are also important….

Not only will you be able to publish your content within a short duration but also replicate your content through the use of your RSS feed. Nowadays, the flow of your content is real-time and the RSS allows you to show your content to a wider audience.

There are several ways to promote your blog….

However, keep in mind that there is no strategy for quick money when it comes to profitable blogging. It requires dedication, time, a strategy for the content and patience before the cash starts flowing in.

Things To Do Before You Submit To Article Directories

Article Directory Submitting

Article Directory Submitting

Things You Must Do Before You Submit To Article Directories

To all writers and non-writers out there, now is the time to start digging up those creative writing skills back. With modern communication technology comes the popularity of information-based marketing, which is one of the oldest and most effective techniques in getting targeted prospects to sites and converting them into buyers. This is why article writing, submissions and publications are also getting popular. There are already many tools that people can use to make the process of distributing their articles more easily. Though this is invaluable in getting the contents more exposure, which is only half of the story.Let us take a look first at the common mistakes that some people make before submitting their contents to article directories:

Confusing the reason to promote the articles with the reason to write them.

In article writing, there are three key benefits why you are promoting them; branding, lead generation and promotion, which are all part of your optimization efforts. But there is only one reason why you write an article, and that is to inform your audience. If the article is not focused on this primary and most important purpose, it will fail to achieve the three promotion benefits because no one will be interested in reading them. You need to figure out first how to get people to read what is in your article, then make them click on your resource box. You can achieve this by producing better contents.

Failing to maximize the promotional opportunities of article marketing.

You may know already that your articles can help you generate additional links back to your site. But do you know that you can get more visitors and better search engine results from that same articles? Mention keywords at strategic places. Just be sure not to overdo them. Some are even using anchor texts which is also an effective method. But it is important to know that majority of the directories are not able to support this.Remember that is not only about the links back to your site. Part of doing well in your article marketing is getting picked up by publishers with a large number of audiences and gaining the ability of leveraging other brands because of the quality of your work. Better search engine results also are great benefits. But these things do not put much money in your pocket. There are other factors that can turn your article marketing efforts into an opportunity that can boost your earnings. Not just increase the number of visitors to your site. Start out with a plan and see to it that your article will serve the function that you intended it to have.

Publishing content that does not help your readers.

Maybe in the process of writing articles, you are thinking that all that is you wanted is links back to your site. And any visitors it can generate are fine. Guess what? Not all article banks and directories are going to accept your content automatically. Often, they have some guidelines and specifications on the articles that they are accepting. You can double the number of sites you can submit to by writing articles that the directories want to share with other people. All it takes is one publisher with a hundred thousand readers to increase your potential audience overnight. Write the articles that publishers want in their publications if you want your article marketing to work the most effective way for you. This also means you have to obey the standard guidelines, spell checks, researching on a good topic and even hiring a writer to produce a good content on your behalf. In the end, it is all really a matter of choice on your part. You can start getting a little exposure from increased links back but on a very basic level. Or enjoy massive exposure from a little extra time making quality contents. It will be your choice. You may not be aware of the fact that an article submitted on directories is not meant to have the same level of exposure as highly-targeted content ones geared on a narrow group of people. Learn the difference between these two and it will surely help you know what kinds of articles to write and to submit.
